City officials are starting to notice the hotspots in Delray Beach’s Atlantic Avenue. With the bars, restaurants, and nightlife creating safety hazards, noise pollution, and crowded streets the city want to begin regulating the evening destinations. Commissioner, Ryan Boylston, wants to address these issues before they start to get out of hand.

Some of the hotspots are trying to control their nighttime crowds that are assembling. But many are not designed to deal with the larger groups especially when South Florida has special events that attract thousands of visitors. Residents of areas such as Fort Lauderdale have been struggling with the crowds that stay outside of nightclubs even after closing time. Though they are working to control the noise that the entertainment districts explode with, it is hurting the housing developments.

Atlantic Avenue used to be a retail center with not much activity going on. For the past 20-some years, it has become a location for food-lovers, party-goers, and people-watchers. There are events such as parades, street fairs, art festivals, and other major events. East of Swinton Avenue is a section of more than 100 lunch and dinner restaurants with only seven stand-alone bars. Members of the community believe there are not enough after-dinner activities. The bars that are available to them are always too crowded and loud.

The increase in nightlife activities and festivals is creating an irritation among the residents since there is an increase in visitors. Some of the steps that city officials are taking are prohibiting amusement rides, banning food trucks, and limiting athletic events to two per month. Organizers of the event also pay higher fees and abide by a list of restrictions. They also are required to pay full price for any police or fire protection they may need.

These large events are causing issues with venues not having the proper control or capacity to contain the people. The large crowds affect traffic and increase noise pollution. The city and owners of restaurants and bars are looking to solve these problems and make transitioning into nighttime entertainment easier, more efficient, and safer experiences. Let me know your thoughts on developing a safe and great experience for the area!
